The Vermont Agency of Transportation is actively involved in the preservation of Vermont's covered bridges. The agency works together with the towns that own the covered bridges in the state. There are studies, programs, and preservation programs in place to facilitate the work done by the VAOT. The majority of the bridges are owned by the towns where they are located.
