Over the years a number of covered bridges have required repairs. Some repairs were due to age, some to accidents, and some to natural disasters. The condition of most bridges are monitored periodically by the Vermont Agency of Transportation. These bridge inspections can reveal issues with the bridges that require intervention due to safety concerns.
There have been a number of bridges that have required attention. The actions range from simple repairs to renovation, rehabilitation, and even restoration. In extreme cases, the some bridges have been completely rebuilt retaining as much "original fabric" as possible.
