February 11, 2021: Ray Boucher has provided the following update on the Vaughn Creek #1 Covered Bridge (WGN 55-11-05). Sean Mott of the Telegraph-Journal is reporting that the Vaughn Creek Bridge is getting a major overhaul.

Here is a summary of the article:

A little over $3 million will be spent to overhaul the Vaughn Creek Covered bridge. $1.59 million will be coming from the federal funding and $1.89 million from provincial funding. The project will involve the complete replacement of the existing bridge. The existing bridge was found to be unsafe and was closed to vehicles in 2017.

Jill Green, provincal minister of transportation and infrastructure, says that "the new bridge will comply with contemporary safety standards and will feature wood housing to replicate a traditional covered bridge's appearance."

The bridge is still in the design phase. The timeline for the project is still in development as well.
