July 19, 2021 - Bill Caswell and James Crouse have informed us that the Watson Settlement covered bridge has been destroyed. Joseph Cyr and Alexander Mac Dougal from the Bangor Daily News are reporting that "an historic covered bridge spanning the Meduxnekeag River was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon".

This post from Susan C. Wagner in The Covered Bridge Experience Facebook group has a few pictures of the bridge: Watson Settlement CB lost.

The Watson Settlement Covered Bridge (19-02-01) was located in the Aroostook county town of Littleton and crossed the Meduxnekeag River. The bridge was a two span 170 foot long Howe truss structure. It was built in either 1903 or 1911 and bypassed in 1984.

The following web link from the Bangor Daily News contains the full story: Historic covered bridge in Aroostook County destroyed by fire. The MSN website also published an article by Rhian Lowndes showing the bridge fully engulfed in flames: Fire burns Watson Settlement Bridge in Littleton

Our thanks to James Crouse for passing this information to us - Ed.
