January 15, 2020: Bill Caswell has made us aware of the closure of the Hune Covered Bridge.
Janelle Patterson, of The Marietta Times, reported that a "landslip occurred between January 5th and 6 on the southeastern bank of the Little Muskingum River". Due to this, the bridge was closed and blocked to "all vehicular traffic" by county officials.
The situation is being assessed with both "short-term and long-term options", according to Washington County Engineer Roger Wright.
According to the World Guide to Covered Bridges, the bridge is located southeast of Columbus in Washington County Lawrence Township, Ohio. The bridge was built in 1879 using a Long truss. Also known as Gallagher's Ford, it crosses the Little Muskingum River with a single span of 128 feet.
