January 26, 2020: Anita Larkin Ford has passed along this information from The Hickory Daily Record website. According to an article written by Virginia Annable, The Bunker Hill Covered Bridge in Catawba County is the subject of a lawsuit. The dispute, between NHM Constructors and the Historical Association of Catabwa County, is over a $400,000 lack of payment.
NHM Constructors was hired to repaired the bridge that was damaged in the summer of 2013. Their work included repairs to resolve erosion issues. The Historical Association of Catawba County maintains that NHM has exceeded the bid amount and will not be paid.
The World Guide to Covered Bridges lists the bridge as a single span Haupt truss. It was built in 1894/95 and measures 81 feet in length. The bridge crosses the Lyle Creek in Claremont Township.
