Conservation Grants for Area Communities

August 8, 2020: James Crouse has passed along this information from the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Dicvision of Historic Preservation is giving out grants totaling "more than $140,000 to Fort Wayne and area communities".

Of interest to the covered bridge community, the Spencerville Covered Bridge, in DeKalb County, will receive $50,000 towards its rehabilitation.

The Spencerville Covered Bridge (WGN 14-17-01) was built in 1873 using a Smith #4 truss. The 160 foot long bridge crosses the St. Joseph River east of the town of Spencerville.
