James writes that "we might want to consider joining -- and thus supporting -- this group in New Brunswick, where there appears to be a need to convince the provincial government of the value of preserving its built heritage in the form of its covered bridges."

This association was formed as a not-for-profit organization to:
- Protect the remaining covered bridges of New Brunswick by having them declared heritage sites.
- Preserve and restore the remaining covered bridges in New Brunswick.
- Promote the history and heritage of the covered bridges of New Brunswick – past, present and future.
