September 16, 2013 Lancaster County, PA - The privately owned Herr's Mill Covered Bridge is in need of help. Fast! According to officals the help needs to come soon as there is concern that the next hurricane will destroy one of the two sections that make up the historic bridge.
The options to stabilize, repair or restore and relocate the bridge have already been explored. Current estimates for the work range from $15,000 to $985,000 depending on the option choosen. Another option being considered is to use local volunteers for the project to reduce the cost.
The owner of the bridge, located in the Mill Bridge Village & Camp Resort, is willing to donate it to anyone who is able to move the bridge. There is an individual interested in moving the bridge to his property. Even with these developments there are obsticles to overcome with the overall legalities. However, individuals and local officials are working to try to come up with a solution before it is too late for the bridge.
