September 3, 2013 Columbus, OH - The state of Ohio ranks second in the nation for the number of original and historic covered bridges. There are currently 145 covered bridges across the state. These covered bridges were built between 1816 and 1919.
Though these covered bridges have endured time, they face a danger from graffiti artists, vandals and even arsonists. Sadly the Ponn Humpback bridge in Vinton county became a victim of arson this past June. This was one of two remaining examples of a special rounded bridge design which cannot be duplicated.
