September 11, 2013 Brownstown, IN - A public hearing was held to gather input on the proposed rehabilitation project of the Shieldstown Covered Bridge. The scope of work for the rehabilitation includes the repair of the floor joists, chords and arch supports. The wood decking, siding and metal roof will also be replaced. The construction timetable is to be determined.
The Sheildstown Covered Bridge is eligable for listing on the Register of National Historic Places. The bridge was built in 1876 by Joseph Daniels with a Burr Arch truss and crosses the East Fork White River in Jackson County, Indiana.
