July 18, 2013 - The state of Alabama has a number of historic bridges to be explored. There are a total of 11 historical and 36 modern covered bridges in the 13 counties of Alabama.
With covered bridges dating back to the mid 1800's, there are is an amazing amount of history associated with them. Some of the bridges were built by former slaves, were crossed by Union soldiers during the civil war, and used for hanging outlaws.
