December 13, 2013, Cullman County, Alabama - After waiting for more than a decade the Clarkson covered bridge will finally get it's needed renovation. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has awarded the project to Bob Smith Construction for the price of $478,998. The renovation is expected to take approximately 60 days and will consist of replacing damaged wood and straightening uneven sections of the bridge.
The Clarkson covered bridge was built in 1904 and is the only existing covered bridge in Cullman county. The bridge, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was first known as the Legg bridge. Over it's lifetime the Clarkson covered bridge has been rebuilt several times.
