North Whitehall, PA, October 18, 2011 - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plans to replace Schlichers Covered Bridge here with a new structure built to carry heavier traffic while preserving the historic structure's appearance.
PennDOT plans call for the replacement of 90 percent of the bridge's original fabric. New materials and roughly 10 percent reclaimed from the existing bridge, starting in spring or summer 2013.
Closed since December 2009. PennDOT plans to start work in the spring or summer of 2016.
