April 28, 2005 - Bridgeton, Indiana - According to Tribune-Star Reporter Patricia Pastore the fire started at about 12:20 a.m. and the bridge was fully engulfed when the fire department arrived shortly after getting the call.
Early reports indicate arson was the cause. The Parke County Sheriff's Department announced that it had a suspect in custody.
The World Guide to Covered Bridges published by the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges describes the Bridgeton Covered Bridge, WGN 14-61-04, as 245-feet span long built in 1868 using the Burr Truss to cross the Big Raccoon Creek in two spans.
