The West Dummerston covered bridge is one of the two longest in the state, and it is the only one with diamond-shaped side ports.
The original bridge was built in 1872 by Caleb Lamson. Follow this link for information on this bridge: The Original West Dummerston Covered Bridge. That bridge was totally renovated in 1998 by Renaud Brothers of Vernon, Vermont. Since that time, the bridge has required additional work. The bridge deck was repaired in 2009. Tropical Storm Irene forced the closure of the bridge for a time in 2011. In 2017 the bridge was damaged by an oversized truck.
Our thanks to the Town of Dummerston for allowing the posting of the Vermont Covered Bridge Society Welcome patch. For more information about the Dummerston area visit their website at www.dummerston.org.
