January 23, 2019: The two covered bridges of Ripley County have been nominated to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. According to the Indiana Landmarks website the Otter Creek and Busching Covered bridges are the bridges that were submitted for the honor.
The World Guide to Covered Bridges notes that the Otter Creek bridge (WGN 14-69-02) was built in 1884. The bridge is built with a Howe truss and is located near the town of Holton. It has been bypassed since 1996.
The Busching bridge (WGN 14-69-04) is the longer of the two bridges and was built in 1885. This Howe truss bridge was restored in 2005 and is currently in use near the Versailles State Park near the town of Versailles.
According the website BRIDGEHUNTER.COM both bridges were built by Thomas A. Hardman.
