Sanderson Covered Bridge Damaged
The Sanderson Covered Bridge in Brandon is closed due to damage caused by a truck attempting to cross the bridge.
Our membership chair, Scott Scribner, was informed by the Town of Brandon on Friday morning that the bridge has been closed due to damage by a truck. The Town notice said "a safety evaluation must be done before reopening".
VCBS member Paul Limmer was in the area and captured these pictures on the incident.
The Rutland Herald reports the following details in an article "Sanderson Covered Bridge damaged in truck collision".
A summary of the article says that the tractor trailor was over weight and to oversized for the bridge. Heavy damage was done to a support beam and other parts. The bridge is closed pending a safety inspection.
The truck is being reported as being "more than 20,000 pounds overweight".
