August 12, 2021: Phil Jordan has made us aware that the repairs on the Chiselville Covered Bridge, in Sunderland, have been completed. Here is Phil's account of the repairs:
By noontime on August 12, the temperature in Sunderland, Vermont had reached a toasty 89 degrees, but that didn’t deter Town of Sunderland road crew member Josh Corey and local carpenter/contractor Michael King from completing repairs they’d started earlier in the day to the Chiselville covered bridge, which had been damaged by a vehicle during mid-June.
The two men made short work out of removing, replicating and then replacing several broken rafters. They also replaced all the boards broken around the south entrance, where a large, southbound vehicle had forced its way through back in June. By 1:00 p.m., with fresh paint on those boards and another new lease on life, the crew picked up the ‘bridge closed’ signs placed earlier in the day and left. To this date, no one has come forth with information on who was responsible for the June incident.
