September 18, 2020: James Crouse has passed along this information about the Irishman Covered Bridge. Howard Greninger of the Tribune-Star is reporting that the repairs have been completed on the Irishman Covered Bridge. The bridge is open again!
According to Parks Superintendent Adam Grossman, it has taken one and a half years and $118,000 to complete the repair work.
The great grandson of C. W. Bishop, the original bridge builder, was on hand with his family. Harvey Milner, his wife Barbara, and daughter Susan Barrett proudly walked across the bridge during the reopening ceremony.
The Irishman Covered Bridge was built in either 1845 or 1867. It was moved from its crossing over the Honey Creek to the current location in Fowler Park in 1971. The bridge was built with a modified Queen truss.
