For the first time since 1938, the North Hartland Twin Covered Bridge joins the Willard Covered Bridge in North Hartland to recreate the original twin bridge pair. The original North Hartland Twin Covered Bridge (45-14-64x) was lost during the hurricane of 1938. The building of this covered bridge is unusual because it was built to replace a concrete bridge that replaced the original covered bridge.
According to Jan Lewandoski, "the town decided that they wanted to put a wooden bridge back in there, and the State went along with that". The new bridge was built by Jan Lewandoski of Restoration and Traditional Building of Greensboro Bend, Vermont. Traffic was flowing through the bridge by October 2001. Full coverage of the project can be found in the archives of the Vermont Covered Bridge Society: New North Hartland Covered Bridge Replaces Concrete Span! and North Hartland Celebrates Bridge Opening!.
