The slogan for replacing the Bartonsville bridge was "We can rebuild history". Seventeen months after the original Bartonsville Covered bridge was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene, the New Bartonsville Covered Bridge was opened.
The new Opening Day celebration took place on January 26, 2013. The event was attended by then Governor Peter Shumlin, Representative Peter Welch, and around 200 people. Local resident Susan Hammond, famous for her video of the loss of the original bridge, was the first person to drive through the new bridge. Susan was also instrumental in fund raising for the new bridge.
According to an article in the Brattleboro Reformer, engineering was done by Clough Harbour & Associates and the bridge construction was done by Cold River Bridges of Walpole, New Hampshire. Here is the full newspaper article: Bartonsville Bridge opens.
