The Lower Cox Brook Bridge is sometimes call the Middle Bridge because of its position - it is the only covered bridge in the state where one can turn and view another.
The Covered Spans of Yesteryear website notes that "In the 1960s the original stone abutments were faced with concrete when the roadway was strengthened with steel I-beams". The bridge was painted red in 1978.
Our thanks to the Town of Northfield for allowing the posting of the Vermont Covered Bridge Society Welcome patch. For more information about the Northfield area visit their website at http://www.northfield-vt.gov/.
