The Brown Bridge, the last built by Nichols Powers, is a fitting monument to one of Vermont's master bridge buiders. The rushing waters of the Cold River are favored by trout fisherman. This was the last bridge that Nichols Powers built.
In 2014 the bridge became Vermont's Newest National Historic Landmark. Click on this link to read the details: Brown Bridge Shrewsbury, VT Vermont's Newest National Historic Landmark. The bridge was recognized as an "outstanding example of the Town Lattice truss".
Construction on the most recent rehabilitation project was completed in 2015 by Wright Construction of Mt. Holly, Vermont. The scope of work includes roof repairs, new siding and runner planks, truss repairs and foundation stone repairs and reconstruction. The bridge had previously been damaged during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
Our thanks to the Town of Shrewsbury for allowing the posting of the Vermont Covered Bridge Society Welcome patch. For more information about the Shrewsbury area visit their website at www.shrewsburyvt.org.
